Breeding Information

In the early 1970’s we bought our first Line 1 Herd Sire - 1002. When we look at his hide today, we are amazed at his size and thickness.

In 1988, we purchased our first Canadian Herd Sire with the goal of adding more thickness and muscle to our herd. We accomplished this with 38X and got a super-disposition Herd Sire in the bargain.

Since then we have bought both Line 1 and Canadian Herd Sires, paying extremely close attention to the "un-measurable traits".

Many important factors contribute to making a cowherd as productive and uniform as possible. You can select and select for numbers, EPD-wise, and for level of performance. But still, the "un-measurable traits" need focus:

  • Eye and bag pigment
  • Disposition
  • Correct udders and short teats
  • Fleshing ability

All of these traits contribute to the Complete Super Cow. In our sale catalogs we mark our Ridder Super Cows in the pedigrees to assist our customers with their selections.

Our requirements for a Super Cow designation are:

  • Calving Ease. No help ever in their lifetime.
  • Perfect, problem-free udders.
  • Red eyes and red bag pigment.
  • Fleshing ability.
  • Early calving.
  • Dam of Distinction (DOD from the American Hereford Association). Most of our purchased and raised Herd Sires are from DODs, also.

Our cow herd is the factory. So is yours. We are dedicated to providing our customers with the best Bulls and Females possible, any breed, any where.
