Notes from our Bull & Heifer Sale:

We hosted our annual sale on a sunny, breezy February afternoon. A good crowd was on hand with active bidding coming from both the ranch sale barn stands and from among the 400 online DV Auction viewers. High interest was expressed in the 157K sons and strong support from buyers was shown for the rest of the proven Ridder bloodlines, as well.

 

Yearling Bulls

   R 157K North Star 10T, sold to Richard Gfeller, Junction City, KS for $9500 for half interest and half possession. This outstanding prospect, weighing 1160 and born March 4th, has tremendous EPDs of 3.3 BW, 92 YW, 0.41 REA and 0.20 IMF. 10T is out of the great 157K sire which we now have back in America and are collecting.157K is a multiple trait leader and one of the top carcass sires of all breeds. 

   R 157K North Star 4T sold for $8500 to Rausch & Schlosser, Hoven, SD. Ridders retained a ¼ interest in this stylish, thick 157K son with carcass EPDs of .47 REA and .19 IMF and weighing 1155.

   Texas Stardance Cattle, Hamilton, TX, purchased R 157K North Star 28T for $6750. 28T weighed 1200 and has EPDs of .37 REA, .15 IMF, 115 YW, and 33 Milk.

   Selling ¾ interest and full possession was R 157K North Star 1T to Claude Harland, Texhoma, OK, for $6000. 1T weighed 1100, has carcass EPDs of .23 REA, and .11 IMF as well as having a 117 index on weaning if AHA assigned indexes to twins.

Ridders retained 41T and 48T for use this summer.

 

Two-Year-Old Bulls

   Topping the two-year-old bulls was the Knipplings of Gann Valley, SD selection of R 304 North Star 52S for $8,000 for ¾ interest, full possession. This 2007 National Western carload show standout weighed 2005#, is out of a 157K daughter, and has tremendous carcass ratios: 110 REA and 137 IMF.

   R 19M North Star 54S, was purchased by Smalls of Fullerton, NE for $6300. A grandson of the great 102J sire, 54S weighed 2055 and has indexes of 106 on weaning, 116 on yearling, and carcass ratios of 106 REA, and 136 IMF.

   Dan Keck of St. Lawrence, SD purchased R 350 North Star 9S for $6000. A son of the Ridder’s outstanding Harland 350 sire, 9S is thick, has terrific weaning and yearling indexes of 111, and an IMF ratio of 114.

   R 13P North Star 23S sold for $5250 to Jim Holm, Mason City, NE. A grandson of Lapp’s standout 137Y sire, 23S weighed 74 pounds at birth and has a 122 IMF ratio.

   Knipplings purchased R 19M North Star 49S for $5000. Used as a cleanup sire on Ridder’s AI heifers, 49S indexed 110 on weaning, 118 on yearling, 117 on REA, and 101 on IMF plus a milk EPD of 39.

 

Heifers

   Selling for $1700 were two heifers: R Starlette 752, a 304 daughter born on April 4 and weighing 835, to Charles Gray, Edmond, OK, and R Starlette 745, a 461 daughter born March 24 and weighing 845, to Texas Stardance Cattle, Hamilton, TX. Both heifers are fancy and extremely feminine.

   Texas Stardance Cattle also purchased a daughter of the great 2L sire, R Starlette 712, for $1650.

   

Sale Averages

10 yearling bulls averaged $6475

  Interests in 6 yearling 157K sons averaged $8700.

45 3/4 2-year-old bulls averaged $3007

35 yearling heifers averaged $1128

Volume bull buyers were Knipplings; Timmerman and Sons, Springfield, NE; and Lonnie Gosnell, Maxwell, NE.

Volume heifer buyer was Texas Stardance Cattle, LLC
